Summary

Development of advanced interactive systems - Introduction to the educational process of 3D simulation games with virtual teachers - Acquisition of metacognitive skills.

Purpose

The project deals with the creation of a multi-media interactive system for the acquisition of meta-cognitive skills aimed at young people, based on the analysis of interaction between users (analyzing verbal or non-verbal communication behaviors - speech, movements, emotions) and computing systems. This research will result in a three-dimensional digital interactive educational application that will be available to the Hellenic Parliament, the Hellenic Parliament Foundation and the schools participating in it.

Results

Groups of students from the House of Adolescents participated as they were considered to be the most appropriate users of such an educational tool on democracy, dialogue and the art of communication in public debate. The 40 participating students were asked to argue per pair on a specific topic (e.g. smoking bans in public areas, repercussions in youth health) in English so as to be audiovisually recorded by the system and participated in three-dimensional simulation games. The users with the help of virtual interlocutors were able to evaluate their abilities in public discussion.
